Shreveport, LA – According to the court documents, the 27-year-old defendant was convicted on Thursday.

His name is Desmond Johnson and he was found guilty as charged of second-degree murder and two counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, court records say.

Prosecutors said the defendant’s murder sentence must be served without benefit of parole, probation or suspension of sentence.

On each count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, he faces imprisonment for five to 20 years, also without benefit of parole, probation or suspension of sentence and a fine of from $1,000 to $5,000.

On December 15, 2020, the defendant encountered his victim, Reginald Young, walking down Jordan Street.

After an argument, the defendant pulled out a gun and fired five shots at close range, killing his victim.

The defendant then fled, discarded two handguns, including the murder weapon, while being observed by police.

Johnson will be sentenced on May 10, 2022.
