CPSO: 59-year-old driver taken into custody after he hit an occupied patrol car near the scene of an earlier crash

Caddo Parish, LA – According to the statement, the crash occurred right before 3 a.m. early Friday morning.

CPSO officials said that a Ford Ranger struck a marked CPSO K-9 unit that was blocking the roadway during a railway crash investigation. 

The CPSO vehicle had its emergency lights activated to block LA 173 at Smith Lane.

The 59-year-old suspect, later identified as David Hanus, stopped after encountering Engine 122 blocking the highway.

He was arrested and charged with ignoring traffic controls, hit and run, flight from an officer, possession of drug paraphernalia. 

Senior Deputy Herring and K-9 Loki, who were inside the patrol car that was hit, were not injured, officials said.

This incident remains under investigation.
