Lafayette, LA — A 49-year-old woman from Franklin, Louisiana, died early this morning after her vehicle overturned on U.S. Highway 90, near the exit ramp to Louisiana Highway 83, according to Louisiana State Police.
The crash occurred just after 2:00 a.m. when Daphne Spain was driving a 2016 Infiniti QX8 eastbound on U.S. 90. As she exited onto the La 83 ramp, the vehicle traveled off the roadway to the left, before overturning, police said.
Spain, who was reportedly not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle during the crash. She was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders.
Troopers with Louisiana State Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash, though at this time, authorities have not released further details.
The incident serves as a reminder of the dangers of driving unrestrained. Seatbelts are proven to significantly reduce the risk of injury and death in the event of an accident.
The identity of the victim has been confirmed as Daphne Spain of Franklin. Family and friends have expressed their shock and grief over the loss.
The investigation remains ongoing.
