Lafayette, LA – Three men were arrested Tuesday after a drug transaction was disrupted at a Motel 6 in Opelousas, Louisiana. The arrests were made by the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office, which had been monitoring the situation after receiving a tip about the planned narcotics deal.
Sheriff Bobby J. Guidroz confirmed that the suspects were found in possession of drugs and firearms. The men face a range of charges, including drug trafficking and resisting arrest.
The three individuals arrested were identified as Jovonta Curtis, 32, of Baton Rouge; Robert Johnson, 31, of Zachary; and Casey Maurice Galmon, 30, of Denham Springs.
Jovonta Curtis faces multiple charges, including:
- Possession with intent to distribute marijuana, heroin, and amphetamine pills
- Possession of drug paraphernalia
- Convicted felon in possession of a firearm
- Possession of a firearm in the presence of a controlled dangerous substance
- Resisting an officer by flight
- Obstruction of justice
Robert Johnson was arrested on similar charges:
- Possession with intent to distribute marijuana, heroin, and amphetamines
- Possession of drug paraphernalia
- Convicted felon in possession of a firearm
- Possession of a firearm in the presence of a controlled dangerous substance
- Resisting an officer by flight
Casey Maurice Galmon also faces drug-related charges along with:
- Obstruction of justice
- Battery on a police officer
According to Sheriff Guidroz, detectives had received information about the planned drug transaction and set up surveillance at the Motel 6, located at 4100 I-49 Service Road in Opelousas. Law enforcement personnel, including marked patrol units and the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office SWAT team, were stationed nearby.
When the suspects arrived at the motel in a vehicle, marked units moved in. Johnson, the driver of the vehicle, was apprehended on the scene and found to be in possession of a firearm. Curtis and Galmon attempted to flee the scene but were quickly surrounded by officers and taken into custody.
Curtis, who fled the vehicle on foot, was reportedly carrying a Glock .45 caliber pistol with an extended magazine. He discarded the firearm on the ground before surrendering to authorities. Galmon, meanwhile, was described as “combative” during his arrest, allegedly assaulting one of the officers.
