Lafayette, LA — The West Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office is asking the public for help in locating 18-year-old Tyler Davis, who is wanted in connection with the death of another teenager. Davis faces charges of second-degree murder and obstruction of justice. Authorities believe he may have connections in the Lafayette area.
Davis is linked to the death of 18-year-old Ja’Morius Mitchell, whose body was discovered on December 18 in a sugarcane field near Sid Richardson Road in Addis. The discovery came after a local cane farmer reported a fire burning in the field around 4 p.m. When deputies arrived, they found Mitchell’s remains, which showed signs of being burned.
Mitchell, a resident of Plaquemine, had been reported missing six days earlier, on December 12. The Plaquemine Police Department confirmed that Mitchell was the subject of a missing person’s investigation before his body was identified. Authorities are treating the case as a potential homicide, suspecting foul play.
Though Mitchell’s body exhibited signs of fire damage, investigators have ruled out that the fire was intentionally set by local sugarcane farmers. They continue to gather evidence and follow leads as part of the ongoing investigation.
The West Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office is urging anyone with information on Davis’s whereabouts to come forward. Tips can be reported to the Sheriff’s Office at 225-343-9234 or Capital Region Crime Stoppers at 225-344-STOP (7867).
Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding Mitchell’s death and have asked the public to remain vigilant.
