Home Health Care Worker Arrested on Multiple Sexual Assault Charges in Evangeline Parish

by Lina Tarson

Lafayette, LA – The Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division initiated an investigation into disturbing allegations involving a local home health care worker accused of sexual assault. The suspect, identified as Kassie Ann Butler, a resident of Mamou, was employed by a home health care service to care for a 39-year-old patient with cerebral palsy who is confined to a bed.

According to investigators, Butler was entrusted with the responsibility of caring for the vulnerable victim, but instead, she engaged in multiple instances of inappropriate sexual activity with the patient. These acts, which took place within the victim’s home, were carried out without the patient’s consent.

Following an extensive investigation, Butler was arrested and faces a series of serious charges. She has been formally charged with:

  • Two counts of First-Degree Rape
  • Two counts of Sexual Battery of Persons with Infirmities
  • Two counts of Cruelty to Persons with Infirmities

The arrest has shocked the local community, as Butler had been employed in a trusted position to provide care for vulnerable individuals. Authorities have expressed their concern over the nature of the alleged crimes, which involved a person with significant physical limitations due to their medical condition.

Butler is currently being held at the Evangeline Parish Jail. Her bond has been set at $550,000. Authorities continue to investigate the case and are urging anyone with additional information to come forward.
