Lafayette, LA – A Morgan City man was arrested on multiple charges this week after authorities uncovered an alleged counterfeit money operation at his home. Jacoby James Chevalier, 39, faces charges of monetary instrument abuse, theft, and four fugitive warrants from St. Mary and Lafayette parishes.
The investigation into Chevalier’s activities began last week when local detectives received information about counterfeit currency being passed at a business on Louisiana Highway 182. Authorities discovered that similar incidents were being investigated by Berwick Police and the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office.
As the investigation progressed, detectives identified Chevalier as a suspect and obtained a search warrant for his home. On Wednesday, officers executed the warrant at his residence on Egle Street. During the search, investigators reportedly found counterfeit bills, printing equipment, paper, and identification cards.
Chevalier was taken in for questioning, where he allegedly admitted to printing and circulating counterfeit money at various businesses in Morgan City, Berwick, and Bayou Vista. In a recorded interview, he confessed to passing the fake currency at three different locations.
Chevalier’s arrest adds to ongoing efforts by local authorities to combat counterfeit operations in the region. He remains in custody on the charges, with additional investigation continuing.
