OPPLOUSAS, La. – A two-vehicle crash on LA 3043 near Webb Lane in Opelousas claimed the life of 46-year-old Nakeisha Pitre on January 5. Louisiana State Police Troop I began their investigation into the serious injury crash shortly before 10 a.m. that day.
According to preliminary reports, Pitre was driving a 1998 Chevrolet United States Postal Service (USPS) mail vehicle eastbound on LA 3043 when the accident occurred. A 2023 Honda Passport, traveling behind her, attempted to overtake the Chevrolet by entering the westbound lane.
As the Honda was passing, Pitre’s vehicle began to slow down and turn left toward a private driveway, crossing into the path of the Honda. The collision occurred when the Honda struck the rear of the Chevrolet.
Pitre, who was unrestrained at the time of the crash, was ejected from the vehicle and suffered serious injuries. She was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. The driver of the Honda, who was wearing a seatbelt, sustained only minor injuries.
On January 15, Louisiana State Police were notified that Pitre had succumbed to her injuries. The investigation into the crash remains ongoing as authorities work to determine the cause of the incident.
This fatal crash is a stark reminder of the importance of wearing seatbelts and exercising caution on the road.
