LAFAYETTE PARISH, La. — A right lane closure on I-49 North near North University Avenue (LA 182) caused delays for several hours on Wednesday morning, according to the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD).

The closure, which affected traffic traveling near the Lafayette Parish-St. Landry Parish line, was necessary for emergency roadwork in the area. DOTD officials reported that the roadwork began around 7:00 a.m. and lasted until approximately 11:30 a.m. when the lane was reopened to traffic.

Motorists in the area were urged to exercise caution and anticipate delays while the repairs were underway. The DOTD did not specify the exact nature of the emergency work but emphasized that it was essential to ensure the safety and maintenance of the roadway.

As of the lane’s reopening, traffic resumed normal flow, and no further closures were reported in the immediate area.
