Fire Hydrant Flushing Underway in Lawtell, St. Landry Parish

by Lina Tarson

Lafayette, La – Residents in parts of Lawtell, St. Landry Parish, may experience temporary disruptions in water service as local officials conduct fire hydrant flushing in several areas. The flushing, which is part of routine maintenance to ensure water quality and the functionality of fire hydrants, is taking place on the 600-1200 block of Austin Road and at several key intersections, including:

  • The corner of Unity Drive and Austin Road
  • The corner of Blossom Road and Austin Road
  • 162 Howard Road
  • The corner of Milton, Brown, and Narcisse Road

While hydrant flushing is necessary to maintain proper water pressure and hydrant readiness for emergencies, it can occasionally cause temporary low water pressure or discolored water. Despite the discoloration, officials reassure residents that the water remains safe to use. For those encountering discolored water, it is advised to run their faucets for a few minutes until the water clears.

The public is encouraged to contact local authorities if they have concerns regarding water pressure or quality during this maintenance period.
