Hydrant Flushing Underway in Lawtell Water District, Impacting Residents and Drivers

by Lina Tarson

ST. LANDRY PARISH, LA — Lawtell Water District #1 has initiated a hydrant flushing operation along Highway 190 East and West this morning, affecting several blocks in the area. Residents in the vicinity are advised to be aware of potential temporary water discoloration and fluctuations in water pressure during the process.

The flushing procedure, a routine maintenance measure, aims to ensure the quality and efficiency of the water system. While the operation is expected to improve the overall water service, those living or working nearby may experience discolored water, particularly if there is a disturbance in the pipes.

Water district officials have warned residents that the water discoloration is generally harmless, but they recommend refraining from using the water for drinking or washing until the situation resolves. Fluctuations in water pressure could also be noticeable during the flushing, although these effects should be temporary.

Local drivers are also being urged to exercise caution while traveling along Highway 190 East and West, as work crews will be actively performing maintenance along the roadside. Authorities suggest paying attention to road signs and slowing down in areas where crews are working.

The flushing is expected to continue throughout the morning. The water district assures the community that they are taking every precaution to minimize disruptions and that the operation will be completed as efficiently as possible. Residents are encouraged to contact the water district directly for any concerns or additional information related to the flushing process.
