Church Point, LA – An 86-year-old Church Point woman, Anna Landry, has died from injuries sustained in a crash that occurred in the early hours of February 28. According to Louisiana State Police, the crash took place around 2 a.m. on La. 357, near its intersection with La. 358.

Landry was a passenger in an SUV that reportedly veered off the road to the left, entering a ditch before striking a mailbox and overturning. The driver of the vehicle, who was wearing a seatbelt, suffered moderate injuries, while Landry, who was not wearing a seatbelt, sustained serious injuries. Both individuals were transported to the hospital for medical treatment.

Sadly, Landry passed away on Monday from the injuries she sustained in the crash.

As part of the investigation, police collected routine toxicology samples from the driver. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Louisiana State Police are urging all motorists to wear seatbelts correctly, emphasizing that seatbelt use can significantly improve survival chances and reduce injury severity in the event of a crash. “While not all crashes are survivable, wearing seat belts correctly can significantly improve your chances of survival and reduce injury severity,” said a spokesperson for the department. “Ensure that the seatbelt is correctly positioned across your hips, chest, and shoulders, and make sure that children are securely fastened in appropriate car seats. These measures are crucial for arriving at your destination safely.”

Authorities also reminded drivers to remain attentive and avoid distractions while behind the wheel, as inattentive driving continues to be a leading cause of accidents in the state.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of following traffic safety rules and prioritizing safety for everyone on the road.
