Severe Weather Leads to Widespread Power Outages Across Acadiana

by Lina Tarson

Lafayette, LA – Acadiana residents are facing widespread power outages this morning as severe weather conditions rolled through the region. According to reports, multiple areas have been impacted by the storm, leaving thousands without electricity.

As of 8:28 a.m. Monday, Slemco reported that more than 5,000 customers were affected by power outages. Meanwhile, Cleco reported that over 3,200 residents were without power due to the storm’s intensity. Entergy’s latest update indicated that over 12,000 customers across the area were without service. Additionally, Lafayette Utilities System (LUS) reported that approximately 200 of its customers were experiencing outages.

The heavy rainfall, strong winds, and lightning associated with the storm have caused widespread disruptions to power infrastructure, making restoration efforts challenging for utility crews. The outages have left many residents in the dark as crews work to assess the damage and restore power.

Utility companies are urging residents to report outages and monitor updates on their respective websites for the latest information. Crews from Slemco, Cleco, LUS, and Entergy are actively working to restore service, although the exact timeline for full recovery is uncertain at this point.
