Manhunt Underway for Suspect Accused of Striking Deputy During Drug Sting in St. Landry Parish

by Lina Tarson

ST. LANDRY PARISH, La. — Authorities in St. Landry Parish are actively searching for a 27-year-old man accused of seriously injuring a sheriff’s deputy during an undercover drug operation earlier this week.

The suspect, identified as Justin Miller, allegedly struck the deputy with his vehicle while attempting to flee the scene of the operation. The deputy, whose name has not been released, remains hospitalized and may require surgery, according to St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby Guidroz.

Miller is no stranger to law enforcement. According to court documents obtained by KATC, he has a criminal history involving narcotics and firearms. He was previously arrested following a 2022 traffic stop and charged with multiple offenses, including distribution and possession of controlled substances with intent to distribute and illegal carrying of a weapon.

Miller was scheduled to be arraigned on April 13, 2023, but failed to appear in court. As a result, a bench warrant was issued for his arrest.

Now, in light of this week’s incident, Miller faces a new set of serious charges. Sheriff Guidroz confirmed that Miller is being pursued on allegations including attempted murder of a police officer, aggravated assault and battery, illegal possession of drugs and firearms, and child endangerment. Authorities believe he may still be armed, which could result in additional charges.

“He’s looking at attempted murder of a police officer, aggravated assault and battery, illegal drug possession, illegal possession of a weapon, and child endangerment,” Sheriff Guidroz said. “If he still has a weapon on him, that’s another count.”

Law enforcement agencies across the region are assisting in the manhunt. Investigators are urging the public to come forward with any information that could lead to Miller’s arrest. Tipsters can contact the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office at (337) 948-TIPS.

Officials are warning the public not to approach Miller, as he is considered dangerous.
