Abbeville, LA – A new security system at Abbeville City Hall aims to improve safety for both residents and city employees. Installed two weeks ago by Lafayette Locksmith Security, the system includes a doorbell featuring a camera and speaker, enabling city officials to screen visitors before granting them entry. The one-time installation cost for the system was $4,000.
The new security measure requires all visitors to press the doorbell, identify themselves, and receive permission to enter the building. The move comes as part of an effort to proactively ensure a safer environment at the city hall, following increasing concerns about security in public spaces.
Local residents have expressed their approval of the added precautions. “I think it’s good if they are thinking ahead and making safety precautions,” said Abbeville resident Craig Boutte. “I came here and it’s the first time I saw it.”
While the decision to install the system was not triggered by any specific security threat, it reflects a broader shift towards enhanced safety measures in public institutions. “I was coming to pay my wife’s occupational license and I noticed the little doorbell,” said Greg Meare, another local resident. “You have to make sure everyone is safe when they are doing their business around town. So, it pays to be extra safe nowadays.”
For many, including Meare, the system is a welcome addition. “You can never be too safe,” he added.
The doorbell’s camera and speaker system provide an extra layer of security by ensuring that all visitors are properly identified before entering the facility. This added measure is expected to provide peace of mind for those who frequent the building for various services.
