Abbeville, LA – The Abbeville Police Department is calling on the public to assist in an ongoing investigation into a shootout that occurred Saturday in the city. The incident, which involved multiple gunshots and high-powered weapons, has left one person injured and prompted authorities to seek additional information.
According to police reports, the shooting took place at the intersection of IJ Joiner and Martin Luther King Drive. The initial call came from a woman who stated that she had been shot and was driving herself to Abbeville General Hospital. As law enforcement officers responded to the scene and the hospital, more witnesses began to report hearing multiple shots fired from what appeared to be high-powered firearms.
Surveillance footage from community cameras revealed key details about the incident. Police identified two vehicles involved in the shootout: an older model black Chevrolet van with Texas plates and a late-model blue Dodge Charger bearing Louisiana plates. The footage showed that there were four people in the Charger, two of whom exited the vehicle and opened fire at the van. One of the shooters used a .223 rifle, while the other fired a .40 caliber pistol.
Following the exchange of gunfire, the Dodge Charger fled the scene with the Chevrolet van in pursuit. The driver of the van, despite being struck by gunfire in both the arm and torso, continued driving to the hospital. She was later transferred to another medical facility for further treatment.
Using GPS tracking, investigators were able to trace the Dodge Charger to the Sateen Royale Trailer Park in Carencro, Louisiana. Both vehicles involved in the shooting were impounded by police for further investigation and evidence collection.
