VILLE PLATTE, LA – Ville Platte police have announced an arrest in the ongoing investigation into the fatal shooting of Cawaskee Ardoin, 31, outside the Gabriel Villa Apartment Complex on April 2.
According to Ville Platte Police Chief A. Perry Thomas, 24-year-old Tijuan Sims turned himself in to authorities on Monday, April 6. Sims has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with Ardoin’s death. His bond has been set at $1.5 million.
“We are grateful that the individual believed to be responsible for this tragedy has been apprehended,” Chief Thomas said in a statement. “However, this case remains under investigation, and we encourage anyone with information to come forward.”
The shooting occurred outside the Gabriel Villa Apartment Complex, and Ardoin was found suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite efforts to save him, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Ville Platte Police Department is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Chief Thomas urged the community to assist in solving the case. “We are all part of the same community, and working together is essential to ending violence. Violence, especially gun violence, is never the solution to any problem,” he said.
