Bomb Threat Leads to Temporary Shutdown of Lafayette Regional Airport

by Lina Tarson

LAFAYETTE, La. — A bomb threat caused a temporary shutdown of Lafayette Regional Airport on Monday, January 27, leading to a brief evacuation and delays for some passengers. Authorities quickly responded to the threat, which was deemed a hoax after a thorough search revealed no signs of danger.

The threat was reported to airport officials just before 3:15 p.m., prompting immediate action. Passengers, airport staff, and TSA agents were evacuated from the terminal as a precautionary measure. At the same time, incoming flights were held on the runway to ensure safety.

Deputies from the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office conducted a comprehensive sweep of both the terminal and surrounding grounds, but no explosive devices were found. After a short period of investigation, the all-clear signal was given, and passengers were allowed to return to the terminal.

Two flights experienced delays as a result of the incident, but there were no cancellations. While officials indicated that the bomb threat was likely not credible, the decision to evacuate the airport was made out of an abundance of caution.

The investigation into the source of the threat is still ongoing, with authorities working to identify those responsible. No further details about the nature of the threat have been released at this time.

The quick and efficient response from both airport and law enforcement officials helped to ensure that the situation was resolved without any harm to passengers or staff.
