LAFAYETTE, La. — Voters in Lafayette Parish have spoken, and Brach Myers is the new representative for State Senate District 23. With all 70 precincts reporting in the Feb. 15 special election, Myers secured 55% of the vote, defeating his opponent, Jesse Regan.
According to the Louisiana Secretary of State’s website, a total of 12,360 votes were cast, with Myers receiving 6,769 votes and Regan garnering 5,591. Myers will now take over the seat previously held by Jean-Paul Coussan, who vacated the position after being elected to the Public Service Commission.
The special election also saw action in East Baton Rouge Parish, where residents of District 14 voted to choose a replacement for Cleo Fields, who was recently elected to Congress. Larry Selders emerged victorious in that race, winning a commanding 62% of the vote.
The results in both parishes mark a significant shift in local leadership, with Myers and Selders now set to represent their respective districts. As they prepare to take office, their victories are a testament to the influence of local voters in shaping the direction of Louisiana’s state legislature.
