BREAUX BRIDGE, LA – A 38-year-old man from Breaux Bridge was killed in a tragic crash Thursday morning involving a school bus and a Hyundai Elantra. The incident occurred in the 1000 block of Poche Bridge Road, where deputies from the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call at approximately 7:00 a.m.

According to Sheriff Becket Breaux, the driver of the Elantra, later identified as Arthur St. Amant Joubert, was traveling northbound when, for reasons that remain unclear, the vehicle crossed the center line. Joubert’s car then collided head-on with a southbound St. Martin Parish school bus.

Joubert, who sustained serious injuries in the crash, was transported to a local hospital but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival.

The school bus, which was carrying students at the time, did not report any injuries among its occupants. Deputies noted that the children aboard the bus were unharmed, and the driver was also reported to be uninjured.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation as authorities work to piece together the events leading up to the collision. No further details have been released at this time.

The St. Martin Parish community is left shaken by the incident, with many expressing condolences to Joubert’s family. Investigators are urging anyone with information related to the crash to come forward as they continue their efforts to determine the exact cause.

As the investigation unfolds, the sheriff’s office is asking drivers to remain cautious and alert on the roads, particularly in the early morning hours when visibility can be compromised.

The St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office continues to work diligently to provide more information as it becomes available.
