Scott, LA – The City of Scott has been named one of 60 recipients of the 2024-25 Keep Louisiana Beautiful Trash Receptacle Grant Program. The grant will fund the installation of five new trash receptacles at key locations throughout the city: City Hall, Begnaud House, West Regional Public Library, Scott Park, and the new Scott Park parking lot.
Mayor Jan-Scott Richard expressed the city’s commitment to improving the local environment, stating, “Litter is hurting our quality of life in Scott. With these new receptacles installed, we will be able to reduce litter and keep our community clean and beautiful.” The new installations are expected to significantly reduce the amount of waste on public property and improve the overall aesthetic of the area.
As part of the grant program, the city will conduct a post-installation litter scan. This will involve comparing data collected after the receptacles are installed to the preliminary litter scan conducted before their placement. The city plans to release the data to the public once it becomes available.
Recent studies by Keep Louisiana Beautiful have shown that areas equipped with properly maintained trash receptacles have seen a reduction in litter by as much as 78 percent. According to Susan Russell, the Executive Director of Keep Louisiana Beautiful, the initiative is crucial to creating cleaner and more beautiful communities. “One of our organization’s key initiatives is to help build infrastructure that supports clean, beautiful communities. Funding trash receptacles is one way we do that. Congratulations to the City of Scott for being selected as a 2024-25 Trash Receptacle Grant recipient,” said Russell.
The grant program, which is funded by the State of Louisiana and the Office of the Lieutenant Governor, awarded a total of 285 receptacles to 60 organizations across 37 parishes in Louisiana. The Keep Louisiana Beautiful Trash Receptacle Grant Program is designed to address the growing issue of litter in communities by providing essential infrastructure to manage waste.
