by Lina Tarson

Lawtell, LA — A decades-old cold-case investigation in St. Landry Parish has led to the arrest of a 74-year-old man in connection with multiple charges of sexual abuse. Felton Leday, from Opelousas, Louisiana, was arrested by the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office on January 15, 2025, and faces one count of first-degree rape and three counts of sexual battery.

The alleged crimes, which took place in the Lawtell area, were said to have occurred over a three-year period, beginning in 1994. The victims, who were children at the time, have not been named for their protection.

Sheriff Bobby Guidroz expressed his gratitude for the victims’ bravery in coming forward after so many years. “I want to personally thank the victims for coming forth and placing their trust in us,” said Sheriff Guidroz. “Their bravery in dealing with such a traumatic event over these many years cannot be overstated.”

The investigation was particularly challenging due to the significant passage of time and the severe trauma experienced by the victims. Juvenile detectives were credited with playing a key role in bringing the case to light, working diligently to piece together the details of the allegations.

The Sheriff’s Office is urging anyone with additional information about the case to come forward.
