Construction Underway on Final Phase of Envision Broussard Revitalization Project

by Lina Tarson

Broussard, LA — The final phase of the Envision Broussard revitalization project is now underway on East Main Street, marking a significant step in the city’s ongoing transformation. Crews are currently working on the addition of sidewalks along Main Street, a key element of the final phase that will help enhance pedestrian access and improve the overall aesthetic of the downtown area.

The Envision Broussard initiative, which has been in development since 2019, is focused on upgrading the city’s infrastructure and creating a more inviting environment for both residents and visitors. The project aims to revitalize the heart of Broussard, with plans to increase property values, attract new businesses, and provide an overall boost to the local economy.

The first phase of the project included crucial drainage improvements and the installation of a new entry gateway structure, welcome signage, and sidewalks stretching from South Bernard Road to Clara Street. These early improvements have already begun to reshape the downtown area, offering a glimpse of the changes to come.

According to Mayor Ray Bourque, the entire Envision Broussard project has an estimated cost of around $10 million, with $3.2 million in state funding supporting the effort. “This revitalization will help raise property values, attract new development downtown, and improve the overall quality of life for our neighbors,” Bourque said.

As construction continues, the focus now shifts to the addition of sidewalks along East Main Street, which are still under development in certain sections of the project zone. The final phase is expected to take approximately 18 to 20 months to complete, with crews working in phases to ensure that residents maintain access to their properties throughout the duration of the project.

Despite the temporary disruptions caused by construction, the long-term benefits of the Envision Broussard project are anticipated to far outweigh the inconveniences. Once completed, the project is expected to offer a more walkable and attractive downtown area, drawing more visitors and encouraging local businesses to thrive.

The community remains optimistic as the city moves closer to realizing the vision for a revitalized Broussard. With enhanced infrastructure, improved public spaces, and a more vibrant atmosphere, the city is poised for a bright future ahead.
