Lafayette, LA – Despite the rain, residents of Crowley gathered along North Parkerson Avenue to witness the excitement of the Mardi Gras parade. The event, which featured colorful floats and the traditional throws, brought the community together, with many braving the weather to enjoy the festivities.
For some, like local resident Nicholas Saucier, the parade was a first-time experience. “We are having a great time,” Saucier said, as he stood with his children, who were experiencing their first Mardi Gras parade in Crowley. “It’s my kids’ first parade, and we are trying to beat the weather.”
Although the rain forced some paradegoers to seek shelter, others were determined to make the most of the celebration. “We are making the best of it. It’s Mardi Gras! We’re catching some beads, having some beer, and now we’re ready for some gumbo,” Saucier explained, embodying the laid-back spirit of the event.
Saucier, who has lived in the area for some time, emphasized the importance of embracing the traditions of Mardi Gras in South Louisiana. “Get out the house, catch some beads, and experience the traditional Mardi Gras of South Louisiana,” he advised, encouraging others to enjoy the time-honored celebration.
The parade ended on Oscar Johnston Drive, but the Mardi Gras festivities continued at the Tony Robichaux Complex, where locals and visitors alike continued to celebrate the season with food, music, and more. Despite the rain, the spirit of Mardi Gras was alive and well in Crowley, as the community came together to celebrate one of Louisiana’s most cherished traditions.
