Evangeline Parish Man Arrested on Multiple Child Sex Abuse Charges

by Lina Tarson

EUNICE, LA — Lepoleon Herbert, a 56-year-old man from Evangeline Parish, was arrested this week on several serious charges, including two counts of aggravated crime against nature, rape, indecent behavior with a juvenile, and molestation of a juvenile.

The arrest follows an investigation into an alleged sexual assault that occurred several years ago involving a 15-year-old girl. Detectives utilized DNA evidence to confirm that Herbert was the father of a child the girl had at the time, which ultimately led to the charges against him.

Earlier this week, law enforcement officials located Herbert in Eunice. Authorities then forwarded warrants to the Eunice City Marshal’s Office, which resulted in his arrest at a residence on Ash Street.

Herbert’s bond has been set at $1,300,000, and he remains in custody as the investigation continues. Detectives are actively working to uncover more details surrounding the case and have urged anyone with further information to come forward.

The Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office is committed to seeking justice for the victim and ensuring the safety of the community.
