Explosion Rocks Scott, Louisiana Home After Propane Tank Malfunctions

by Lina Tarson

Scott, LA – A powerful explosion rocked a home in the 1200 block of St. Mary Street on Sunday, January 26, at approximately 10:45 a.m., leaving significant damage to the property and nearby homes. The Scott Fire Department quickly responded to the scene, where they found multiple individuals outside, but thankfully no one was injured.

Firefighters learned that the explosion was caused by a malfunction in a propane tank located near the front porch of the home. According to authorities, the tank, which was connected to a gas grill, experienced a dangerous buildup of pressure as temperatures warmed throughout the day. A defective or malfunctioning pressure relief valve on the five-gallon propane tank was unable to release the excess pressure, leading to the explosion.

The blast severely damaged the home, blowing out a door and shattering several windows. Shrapnel from the explosion was scattered throughout the home and sent debris flying into neighboring properties, causing additional damage. Fortunately, the occupant, who was in a different part of the house at the time, was able to escape without injury.

Although the destruction was extensive, the explosion could have been far worse. No injuries were reported among civilians or firefighters, and authorities are continuing to investigate the cause of the malfunctioning valve.

Fire officials urge homeowners to ensure that all propane tanks and grills are properly maintained to avoid similar incidents.
