OPPLOUSAS, La. — A two-vehicle crash on LA 3043 near Webb Lane resulted in the death of a local woman after a collision on January 5, 2025. The Louisiana State Police Troop I began investigating the incident, which occurred shortly before 10 a.m., and later confirmed the fatality.
According to the preliminary investigation, the crash involved a 1998 Chevrolet United States Postal Service (USPS) mail vehicle driven by 46-year-old Nakeisha Pitre of Opelousas and a 2023 Honda Passport. Pitre was traveling eastbound on LA 3043 when the Honda, driven by an unidentified individual, attempted to overtake the Chevrolet. In the process, the Honda entered the westbound lane of the roadway.
As the Honda was passing, the Chevrolet began to slow and turn left toward a private driveway, crossing into the path of the Honda. The two vehicles collided when the Honda struck the rear of the Chevrolet.
Pitre, who was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, was ejected from the Chevrolet. She was transported to a nearby hospital with serious injuries, where she remained under care until she succumbed to her injuries on January 15. The driver of the Honda, who was properly restrained, sustained only minor injuries.
The Louisiana State Police continue to investigate the cause of the crash. Authorities have yet to release additional details on the condition of the Honda driver or any further developments in the case.
