Lafayette, LA – A fire broke out Saturday afternoon at the Ile des Cannes Apartment Complex on Scotsdale Street in Scott, Louisiana, prompting a swift response from local fire departments. The blaze, which started at approximately 3:12 p.m., was reported to have originated in a downstairs unit, with flames visibly emanating from the apartment.
Upon arrival, firefighters were informed by nearby residents that the apartment’s occupants were still inside. Crews immediately entered the unit to conduct a search for potential victims and to suppress the fire. Inside the apartment, firefighters discovered that a fire had ignited in one of the bedrooms. The flames were quickly brought under control, and fortunately, no human victims were found. However, two pets—a cat and a guinea pig—were safely rescued from the apartment by the responding firefighters.
The fire, which caused significant damage to the bedroom, is believed to have been caused by improperly discarded smoking materials. The remainder of the apartment sustained moderate smoke damage, but the other three units in the building remained undamaged.
Firefighters from Lafayette, Duson, and Judice were called to assist in the operation, and no injuries were reported among either civilians or firefighters. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
