LAFAYETTE PARISH, La. — A vacant home located on the 300 block of SW Evangeline Thruway was destroyed in a fire early Wednesday morning, with a neighboring occupied residence suffering minor damage, according to the Lafayette Fire Department.
At approximately 12:04 a.m., emergency dispatchers received multiple 911 calls reporting visible flames emanating from the vacant structure near Sixth Street. Firefighters rushed to the scene, where additional reports indicated the fire had begun to spread to the adjacent occupied home.
Upon arrival, crews found the vacant home fully engulfed in flames, with the fire threatening the neighboring residence. Firefighters acted swiftly to contain the blaze, preventing further damage to the occupied property.
Fortunately, the residents of the neighboring home were able to escape unharmed. However, the side of their house sustained minor fire damage. Fire officials confirmed that the fire originated inside the vacant home, though the exact cause remains under investigation.
