Four Arrested in Connection with Fatal Opelousas Shooting

by Lina Tarson

Opelousas, LA — Four individuals have been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of 22-year-old Justin Washington, who was killed late Saturday night, May 24, in Opelousas. The incident occurred around 10:30 p.m., prompting a response from the Opelousas Police Department.

Authorities say initial interviews at the scene revealed inconsistencies between witness statements and physical evidence, leading detectives to conduct a more in-depth investigation. After re-interviewing witnesses and analyzing forensic findings, police determined that 18-year-old Jasean Mansfield was the individual who fired the weapon that killed Washington.

Mansfield was taken into custody after a third interview during which he confessed to the shooting. He was booked into the St. Landry Parish Jail on charges of negligent homicide and obstruction of justice.

During the investigation, detectives also uncovered efforts by others at the scene to tamper with evidence before police arrived. Three individuals—31-year-old Sharona Glaude, 19-year-old Latravien Glaude, and 18-year-old Koby Glaude—were arrested and charged with obstruction of justice for allegedly attempting to clean up the crime scene.

The case remains under active investigation. Authorities are urging anyone with additional information to come forward. Tips can be submitted to the Opelousas Police Department at (337) 948-2500 or anonymously through St. Landry Crime Stoppers by calling (337) 948-TIPS, visiting www.stlandrycrimestoppers.com, or using the P3 mobile app. Tipsters may be eligible for a cash reward of up to $2,500.
