Groundbreaking marks start of Bertrand Drive infrastructure improvements

by Jayson Moore

Lafayette, LA – Lafayette Consolidated Government announced the start of a major infrastructure project along Bertrand Drive, beginning with the undergrounding of communications utilities.

Officials said the $1.9 million investment is designed to improve reliability, reduce outages, and remove overhead lines, laying the groundwork for broader corridor improvements.

Planned upgrades include modern infrastructure, enhanced walkability and bike access, and safer, more efficient traffic flow. City leaders noted the project was shaped by community input and is intended to support both residents and local businesses.

An official design unveiling for the project is scheduled for April 8 at 6 p.m. at Russo Park’s Stadium Club.
