CARENCRO, La. — Interstate 49 in Lafayette Parish was fully reopened on Tuesday, January 28, following a crash that caused a temporary closure of the northbound lanes. The accident occurred just past Gloria Switch Road in Carencro, where a pickup truck went airborne, flipped over, and landed upright on the highway.
The incident resulted in a significant traffic backup as authorities diverted vehicles off I-49 North at the Gloria Switch exit. The highway remained partially closed for more than two hours while emergency responders worked at the scene.
An ambulance was dispatched to the location, though details regarding the extent of any injuries sustained in the crash remain unclear. The Louisiana State Police have launched an investigation into the cause of the accident, but no further information has been released as of yet.
Motorists traveling in the area experienced delays during the closure, but the interstate was fully reopened later in the afternoon, allowing traffic to resume its normal flow.
Authorities continue to urge drivers to remain cautious when traveling in the area while the investigation continues.
