NEW IBERIA, La. — A corrections officer at the Iberia Parish Jail was arrested on Tuesday, January 13, after an investigation revealed her involvement in the introduction of contraband into the facility.
The Iberia Parish Jail Investigations Unit initiated the probe after a cell phone was discovered within the jail. During the course of the investigation, authorities uncovered evidence suggesting that Corrections Officer Brittney Davis had been in contact with an inmate regarding the introduction of contraband. Additionally, Davis was found to have knowledge of contraband already present in the jail but failed to report it as required.
As a result of these findings, Davis, 27, was arrested and booked into the St. Martin Parish Jail on a charge of malfeasance in office. Her bond was set at $25,000.
Sheriff Tommy Romero expressed his concern over the incident, emphasizing the importance of maintaining the integrity and security of the facility. “The actions of this corrections officer are unacceptable and do not reflect the values of this department,” Romero said. “We hold our deputies to the highest standards, and any violation of that trust will not be tolerated. As law enforcement officers, we are sworn to uphold the law, not betray it.”
Romero also noted that the department would continue to ensure accountability for those who compromise the safety and security of the jail. The investigation into the matter has been swiftly handled, with Davis’s arrest serving as a reminder of the agency’s commitment to holding personnel accountable for their actions.
