Jennings Man Arrested in Connection with Drug Overdoses, Including One Death

by Lina Tarson

JENNINGS, La. — A 60-year-old Jennings man has been arrested after being linked to at least nine drug overdoses, including one fatality, over the span of just five days. The arrest was announced by the Jennings Police Department on Friday, January 10.

Ronald Martin was taken into custody after investigators determined he supplied the drugs involved in the overdoses, many of which were laced with fentanyl, a potent and often deadly opioid. The incidents occurred between January 5 and January 9, prompting a swift and thorough investigation.

According to police, the overdose victims were found throughout the city, and the drugs involved included a dangerous mix of fentanyl and other substances. Authorities say Martin was the primary supplier of these drugs.

Following the arrest, police executed a search warrant at Martin’s residence. Inside, they discovered an extensive stash of illegal narcotics, including 11 pounds of marijuana, methamphetamine, powder cocaine, heroin, and fentanyl. The quantity of fentanyl seized marked what authorities are calling the largest fentanyl bust in Jennings’ history.

Jennings Police Chief Danny Semmes expressed his concern over the growing presence of fentanyl in the community. “This is a very significant drug bust,” he said. “The amount of fentanyl seized is the largest we’ve ever seen in Jennings, and it highlights the danger our community is facing with this powerful and deadly substance.”

The investigation into Martin’s activities is ongoing, and authorities are working to identify any additional individuals involved in the distribution of these drugs. Martin faces multiple charges, including drug trafficking and involuntary manslaughter in connection with the fatal overdose.

Local officials and law enforcement continue to warn residents about the dangers of fentanyl and its increasing presence in illicit drug markets. Fentanyl is often mixed with other drugs, increasing the risk of overdose, and its potency can be deadly even in small amounts.

The Jennings Police Department is urging anyone with information related to the case to come forward as they work to curb the growing drug crisis in the region.
