Lafayette Parish Library Board Approves Design for New Northeast Regional Library

LAFAYETTE PARISH, LA — The Lafayette Parish Library Control Board has officially approved the design for the new Northeast Regional Library, marking a key milestone in the long-awaited project. The 20,000-square-foot facility is set to feature state-of-the-art technology and will cater to the growing needs of the community.

The design, presented by 720 Design, was one of three options recommended by the Library Committee in February. After months of discussions focused on the size, cost, and feasibility of the project, the board voted unanimously on Monday to move forward with the plans, calling it a crucial investment for the region.

“We have numbers, we have budgets, we have operational costs, but we also have the voice of the community,” said Library Board Member Rene Bradley during the meeting. “I think tonight, the Library Board finally, truly heard the community’s voice and what they’re passionate about.”

The approval of the design clears the path for the next stages of the project, which will involve securing funding and beginning construction. Bradley also reassured the public that the necessary resources for both the construction and operating costs through 2034 are in place.

The design process, which involved numerous community surveys and consultations with local residents, reflects public input at every stage. Community feedback was essential in determining the final concept, ensuring that the new facility meets the needs and expectations of the people it will serve.

“We are finally able to see the library board come to a unanimous agreement to build this library on the Northside,” said Consuela Gaines, a board member with the Library Control Board. “This is something the community has been asking for, and we’re excited to make it a reality.”

Construction of the new Northeast Regional Library is slated to begin in 2026, with the project expected to be completed by 2028. Once finished, the facility will not only offer advanced technological resources but also become a hub for learning, innovation, and community engagement in the Northside area.
