Lafayette, LA – The Lafayette Police Department (LPD) is ramping up its traffic enforcement efforts along the S. College Road to Ambassador Caffery Parkway corridor, a known shortcut frequently used by motorists. The initiative, part of an ongoing effort to improve road safety, is a response to a noticeable increase in traffic violations in the area.
Over the course of a recent four-day period, LPD traffic officers issued 45 citations. These violations included speeding, with several drivers caught exceeding the posted speed limits, and stop sign violations, where drivers failed to come to a complete stop at designated intersections.
According to the LPD, this enforcement initiative aims to address the dangerous driving behaviors that pose a risk to both motorists and pedestrians in this heavily traveled area. The department has made it clear that the increased presence of officers will continue, with enforcement occurring periodically throughout the day.
“The safety of our community is a top priority, and these traffic violations can have serious consequences,” said a representative from the Lafayette Police Department. “By focusing on this high-traffic corridor, we hope to reduce accidents and promote better driving habits.”
The department emphasized that the enforcement would persist until a significant reduction in citations is observed, signaling improved compliance with traffic laws. Until then, officers will maintain an increased presence in the area, keeping a close watch on speeding and stop sign violations.
Motorists are being urged to exercise caution while traveling through the corridor, adhere to posted speed limits, and follow all traffic control devices. The LPD has made it clear that they will continue to monitor the situation closely to ensure the safety of all those on the road.
As this enforcement campaign moves forward, the LPD remains committed to ensuring safer streets and roads for everyone in Lafayette.
