Lafayette Police Investigate Fatal Shooting; Suspect Arrested

LAFAYETTE, La. — A 21-year-old Lafayette woman, identified as Keiara Ledet, was fatally shot early Sunday morning, February 9, on Pinhook Road near Carmel Drive. Authorities responded to the scene just before 1 a.m. after reports of the shooting emerged.

According to the Lafayette Police Department, the suspect has been identified as 20-year-old Wikeem Smith, also of Lafayette. Smith was arrested and later booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center, facing multiple charges including second-degree murder, resisting an officer, and possession of marijuana.

Additionally, it was revealed that Smith had an outstanding arrest warrant from Fort Smith, Arkansas, which was active at the time of his arrest.

Details surrounding the motive behind the shooting remain unclear as the investigation continues. Authorities have not disclosed further information about the circumstances leading up to the fatal incident.
