LAFAYETTE, La. — Authorities are investigating a traffic accident involving a car and a train that occurred this afternoon on the 2300 block of SW Evangeline Thruway. The collision, which took place around 12:57 p.m., resulted in the car being struck by the train and subsequently sent into a ditch.
According to the Lafayette Police Department, the car was hit at an uncontrolled train crossing. Despite the force of the collision, the driver of the vehicle only sustained minor injuries. Emergency responders quickly arrived on the scene and transported the individual to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The train involved in the incident came to a stop shortly after the crash. Fortunately, there were no further injuries reported, and the area’s traffic has since resumed its normal flow. However, police are advising motorists to remain cautious and aware of possible distractions due to the ongoing accident scene.
