LAFAYETTE, LA — A traffic accident involving a car and a train occurred today at approximately 12:57 p.m. on the 2300 block of SW Evangeline Thruway, near an uncontrolled train crossing.
According to the Lafayette Police Department, the train struck the vehicle, causing the car to be thrown into a nearby ditch. The impact brought the train to a halt. Despite the severity of the incident, the car’s driver sustained only minor injuries. Emergency responders transported the driver to a local hospital for treatment.
Authorities reported that traffic in the area is now flowing normally, although they urge drivers to remain cautious and aware of potential distractions caused by the accident scene.
