Lafayette, LA – A man wanted in connection with two shootings in Crowley, Louisiana, has been arrested in Houston, Texas. Rondell Nelson, who was sought by authorities on multiple charges, was taken into custody by U.S. Marshals on two outstanding warrants. Nelson is facing a total of nine counts of attempted second-degree murder related to two separate incidents that occurred in 2024.
According to Crowley Police Chief Troy Hebert, the shootings were part of a retaliatory pattern of violence targeting a specific victim. The first incident occurred in June 2024 at the Westwood apartment complex, where Nelson is accused of shooting at the victim. The victim sustained injuries during the attack. The second shooting took place in September 2024 on Harry Fuselier Street, when Nelson allegedly shot into the house of the same victim. At the time of the shooting, the victim was inside the residence along with six other individuals.
Hebert confirmed that both incidents established Nelson as the primary suspect, noting that they reflect a continued threat to the safety of the victim. “Both incidents firmly establish Nelson as the primary suspect and reflect a continued threat to the victim’s safety,” Hebert said.
After his arrest, Nelson was extradited back to Louisiana, where he is being held at the Acadia Parish Jail on a $300,000 bond. Authorities have not provided any information regarding whether Nelson has legal representation at this time.
The arrest follows a months-long investigation by Crowley police and federal authorities, highlighting the seriousness of the charges Nelson faces.
