LAFAYETTE, La. — A massive house fire in Lafayette sent thick plumes of smoke and towering flames into the night sky, drawing firefighters and emergency responders to the scene in force. The fire broke out at a home located in the 300 block of Jeanette Street, just off Eraste Landry Road and Bertrand Drive, around 7:15 p.m. on Sunday evening.
The fire ignited quickly, producing intense heat, smoke, and flames that could be seen for miles. Firefighters worked swiftly to bring the blaze under control and prevent it from spreading to nearby homes in the residential neighborhood. The flashing lights of multiple fire and police vehicles cut through the thick smoke as crews battled the inferno.
According to officials with the Lafayette Fire Department, a mother and her adult daughter were inside the house when they heard a popping sound. Upon investigation, the mother noticed the carport was on fire. The two women quickly evacuated the home through a back door, with a neighbor offering assistance to help them climb over a backyard fence to safety.
Fortunately, there were no injuries reported. Acadian Ambulance paramedics were on standby at the scene, ready to provide medical care if necessary, but no victims required treatment.
The home was left severely damaged, with only the charred remains standing. Authorities have not yet determined the cause of the fire, and the investigation is ongoing.
Firefighters were able to prevent the flames from spreading to surrounding properties, and the situation was brought under control before it could cause further damage. The community is thankful that the two residents were able to escape unharmed, though the loss of the home remains a significant blow to the family.
