Lafayette, LA – A two-vehicle crash in Acadia Parish claimed the life of a Morse woman on Monday afternoon, according to Louisiana State Police Troop I.
The incident occurred shortly after 4 p.m. on Louisiana Highway 92 (W. Whitney Street) near Everglade Road. Authorities report that 50-year-old Cora Barrios was traveling west on LA 92 when she slowed her SUV to make a turn onto Everglade Road. A second vehicle, traveling behind Barrios, failed to slow down in time and collided with the rear of her vehicle.
Barrios was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, and as a result, she sustained serious injuries. She was transported to a nearby hospital but later succumbed to her injuries. The driver of the second vehicle, who was properly restrained, sustained moderate injuries and was also taken to the hospital for treatment.
Louisiana State Police have stated that toxicology samples were collected from both drivers, and the investigation into the crash remains ongoing. Authorities are urging drivers to stay vigilant and adhere to safety practices, such as wearing seat belts, to reduce the risk of severe injury or death in the event of a collision.
State Police have also emphasized that distracted, inattentive, and reckless driving continue to be leading factors in crashes across the state.
