Lafayette Parish, LA — A fatal crash occurred Friday evening on Louisiana Highway 719 near Ridge Road, resulting in the death of a Slidell woman.
Charlene Martin, 59, was a passenger in a vehicle traveling south on Highway 719 when the driver attempted to make a left turn onto Ridge Road shortly after 7 p.m. According to law enforcement, the driver failed to yield to oncoming traffic, and another vehicle crashed into the side of the car Martin was in.
Martin, who sustained severe injuries in the collision, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the vehicle she was in, along with the driver of the other vehicle, both suffered moderate injuries and were transported to nearby hospitals.
Authorities reported that impairment is not suspected in the crash, though a standard toxicology sample was collected from both drivers. The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
The Louisiana State Police are asking anyone with information related to the crash to come forward as they continue their inquiry into the incident.
