OPELOUSAS, La. — Jason Paul Laday, the man accused of fatally shooting Harrison Bordenave at a local health club in February 2023, was back in jail on Thursday after a judge revoked his bond. The decision followed a recent arrest in Calcasieu Parish, where Laday was charged with multiple offenses, including felony drug possession, theft, and resisting an officer.
During a tense court hearing, prosecutors presented their argument for revoking Laday’s bond, citing his new legal troubles. Court records indicate that Laday was arrested in November 2024, adding more charges to his already serious allegations related to the shooting death of 35-year-old Bordenave. Laday’s defense attorney, however, maintains that the shooting was an act of self-defense.
While Laday’s family members spoke out in his defense, pleading for him to be allowed to remain free on bond, the judge ultimately sided with the prosecution. The ruling came after Bordenave’s mother, Charlotte Bordenave, delivered an emotional statement in court.
“This is very, very painful, and I feel this is in God’s hands. I hope God can right this wrong,” said Charlotte Bordenave, who has been grieving the loss of her son since the shooting. She added that while her pain remains immense, she found some small comfort in the court’s decision to send Laday back to jail.
Laday’s supporters argued that he was a good father and a productive member of society, and they expressed their desire for him to be released on bond. However, Bordenave, who has attended each hearing, countered, saying, “It seems like a travesty that his family speaks about what a good father he is and how much they need him. Well, I need my son, too. I miss him every day.”
Though acknowledging the difficulty of the situation, Bordenave expressed that she felt a measure of justice had been served with the judge’s ruling. “This is difficult for me. It never gets any better, but today, some small measure of justice was done because he’s going back to jail,” she said.
Laday’s attorney and family declined to comment on the judge’s decision following the hearing. With his bond now revoked, Laday will remain in custody as he faces further legal proceedings in connection to the charges against him.
The case remains under investigation, and the next steps in the legal process will determine the future course of the case against Laday.
