ABBEVILLE, La. – Two parents were arrested on Wednesday evening after allegedly kidnapping their young daughter from her grandparents’ home, violating a court-ordered custody agreement, authorities reported.
Blake LeMaire, 40, and Jacqueline LeMaire, 42, were taken into custody by the Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office. They have been charged with interfering with the custody of a child, simple assault, and home invasion. Blake LeMaire also faces an additional charge of simple criminal property damage.
The incident unfolded around 6:45 p.m. on Maple Street, just south of Abbeville. Deputies were alerted to the situation when the grandparents of the child contacted authorities, claiming that Blake and Jacqueline LeMaire arrived at their residence to take the child, despite a court ruling granting custody to the grandparents.
Authorities were told the parents took the child from the home, defying the custody order. The situation escalated when they reportedly entered the residence uninvited and caused damage during the confrontation. Deputies quickly responded to the scene, arresting the couple without further incident.
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are continuing to ensure the safety and well-being of the child, who was returned to the care of her grandparents.
The LeMaires remain in custody as of Thursday morning.
