EUNICE, La. — A pedestrian lost his life Friday evening after being struck by a vehicle while walking along U.S. Highway 190 in Eunice.
Andre Phoenix, 47, of Eunice, was reportedly walking in the left westbound lane of the highway when a vehicle traveling in the same lane collided with him. Phoenix suffered serious injuries and was immediately transported to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Authorities investigating the incident stated that the driver of the vehicle was not suspected of impairment. The driver voluntarily provided a breath sample, which showed no signs of alcohol consumption or impairment at the time of the crash.
The Eunice Police Department continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision. Further details have not been released as authorities work to determine the cause of the crash.
