Postal Workers in Lafayette Plan Rally to Defend U.S. Postal Service

by Lina Tarson

LAFAYETTE, LA — Postal workers in Lafayette are set to rally Thursday as part of a nationwide initiative to protect the U.S. Postal Service (USPS). The American Postal Workers Union (APWU) will host a “Day of Action,” which includes a local event at the APWU Local 2803 office in Lafayette.

The rally is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. Thursday, outside the APWU Local 2803 office, located at 1105 Moss St. Union leaders have expressed concern over serious threats to the USPS, including potential takeovers they claim could jeopardize jobs, workplace conditions, and public services.

Organizers are calling on local residents to stand in solidarity with postal workers, emphasizing the critical role the USPS plays in the community. “This is about defending jobs and the services that so many people rely on every day,” said a union spokesperson.

The “Day of Action” will take place across the country, with rallies and events organized in various cities. The APWU is urging community members to attend and voice their support for the workforce that keeps the Postal Service running.

For more information or to RSVP, individuals can contact the APWU at [email protected].

As concerns over the future of the Postal Service grow, Thursday’s rally in Lafayette is expected to draw attention to the ongoing battle for the USPS’s future and the workers who keep it operational.
