Reward Offered for Information on Animal Cruelty Case in Patterson

by Lina Tarson

Patterson, LA — A $1,700 reward is now being offered for information leading to the identification and conviction of the person responsible for the brutal abuse of a pit bull terrier found in Patterson. The dog, named Olive, was discovered on the evening of March 6, 2025, by a local citizen who alerted the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office. Olive, a buckskin-colored pit bull terrier, was found chained to a tree with multiple bullet wounds, according to the Louisiana Humane Society.

After being rescued, Olive was transported to the St. Mary Parish Animal Shelter, where, unfortunately, she had to be euthanized due to the extent of her injuries. The case has drawn widespread attention from animal lovers and advocates in the area, who have expressed their outrage over the cruelty inflicted upon the dog.

In response to the incident, the Aviary Creature Rescue, a local organization based in St. Mary Parish, has launched a GoFundMe campaign to raise both awareness and reward funds for anyone who can provide reliable information about Olive’s abuser. Within just 12 hours, the campaign raised $1,700, with the Humane Society of Louisiana contributing an additional $500.

“We’re hearing and seeing a lot of horrific animal cruelty incidents in St. Mary Parish, and the reasons behind them remain unclear,” said Jeff Dorson, Director of the Humane Society of Louisiana. “However, we remain hopeful that the combined efforts of the Sheriff’s Office, the St. Mary Parish Animal Shelter, and humane groups like Aviary Creature Rescue will help identify the perpetrators and bring them to justice.”

Dorson further emphasized the severity of such crimes, explaining that acts of animal cruelty—such as the torture, mutilation, or malicious killing of animals—are considered felonies in Louisiana. These offenses carry severe penalties, including jail time, fines, mandatory community service, counseling, and restrictions on future pet ownership.

The St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office has also posted a call for information regarding Olive’s case, urging anyone with tips to come forward. Those with relevant information can contact the Sheriff’s Office directly or send anonymous tips via text to 985-999-0210.

Animal cruelty advocates are hopeful that the reward fund and heightened community awareness will encourage individuals to share any information that could lead to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for Olive’s suffering.

“We owe it to animals like Olive to ensure that those who commit such heinous acts face justice,” said a spokesperson for the Louisiana Humane Society. “This case is not just about Olive—it’s about sending a clear message that animal cruelty will not be tolerated in St. Mary Parish or anywhere else.”

The case remains under investigation as authorities work to identify the responsible party.
