ST. MARTIN PARISH, LA — A major roadway project has officially kicked off in St. Martin and Iberia parishes, with the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) announcing an $8.4 million initiative aimed at enhancing a key section of LA-31. The improvements will stretch from LA-182 (East St. Peter Street) in Iberia Parish to approximately 0.9 miles south of LA-92 along Smede Highway in St. Martin Parish.
The extensive project, fully funded by state funds, will address several critical aspects of the roadway, including milling asphalt pavement, patching, applying a new asphalt concrete overlay, and upgrading guardrails and striping. These upgrades are expected to improve both the safety and longevity of this vital corridor.
Though construction will be ongoing, the road will remain open to regular traffic. However, drivers can expect alternating lane closures during work hours. Additionally, oversized vehicles will face a 12-foot lane restriction while passing through the construction zone.
Construction began on Monday, March 17, and will continue Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. The DOTD has indicated that the project is set to be completed by April 2026. Motorists are encouraged to exercise caution and plan for possible delays when traveling in the area.
For more information on the project, residents can refer to official communications from the DOTD or visit the department’s website for updates.
