by Lina Tarson

Abbeville, La. — An Abbeville man is in critical condition after being shot multiple times during a confrontation with another individual on Friday morning. According to the Abbeville Police Department (APD), the victim, whose identity has not been released, was driving down the road near 10 a.m. when he began yelling that he had been shot.

The man, who had sustained two gunshot wounds, managed to drive himself to Abbeville General Hospital. After receiving initial treatment, he was transferred to a nearby hospital for further care. Authorities said that the victim’s injuries were stabilized, but he remains under medical supervision.

APD investigators learned that the shooting followed a heated argument between the victim and Tyler Jontey Mitchell, who allegedly pulled out a gun during the dispute and fired several rounds. In addition to injuring the victim, one of the bullets struck the victim’s vehicle.

As a result of the shooting, police have issued a warrant for Mitchell, charging him with one count of attempted second-degree murder, one count of illegal use of weapons or dangerous instrumentalities, and one count of aggravated criminal damage to property.

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward. APD encourages the public to contact the department directly at 337-893-2511 or to leave tips anonymously at 337-892-6777.

This incident has raised concerns in the community as authorities continue their search for Mitchell. As the investigation progresses, APD remains committed to resolving the case and ensuring justice is served.
